VIN Format

First-generation Camaros (1967-69) use a 13-digit VIN format. The VIN is stamped on a plate riveted to the vehicle. Location varies: 1967 models have it on the left door jamb hinge pillar, while 1968-69 models have it on the upper dash panel (visible through windshield).

Note on Late 1969 Engines

Late 1969 SS396 Camaros received engines with 1970-style 3-digit codes (prefix C for cars). These were actually 402 cubic inch engines (.030 overbore), though still marketed as 396.
